Where can I sell my vintage camera in South Africa?

You can sell it to urleica, a specialist buyer of vintage film cameras that serves the whole of South Africa. WhatsApp three or four clear photos and the make and model to 083 261 1594. A specialist replies with a free valuation. If you accept, urleica arranges collection or a tracked courier and pays by EFT. Cameras that no longer work can still be worth something.

How it works

Three simple steps

  1. Send photos

Send four phone photos on WhatsApp: the front, the top plate with the serial number, the lens with a torch shining through it, and any extras.

  2. Get a valuation

A specialist identifies your camera and makes you an honest offer. It’s free, and you don’t have to accept.

  3. Get paid by EFT

Accept, and we arrange collection or a tracked courier. When the camera arrives and matches the photos, we pay you.

Questions

Common questions

Where can I sell my old film camera in South Africa?

You can sell it to urleica, a specialist vintage camera buyer serving the whole of South Africa. Send photos on WhatsApp to 083 261 1594 or use the valuation form on this page, and a specialist will reply with a free valuation.

How much is my vintage camera worth?

It depends mostly on the make and model, then on the condition of the lens and shutter. Collector cameras such as the Leica M3, Hasselblad 500C/M and Rolleiflex 2.8F can be worth many thousands of rand, while common point-and-shoot cameras are usually worth much less. Send photos of the front, the top plate and the lens for a free, no-obligation valuation.

Do you buy cameras that don’t work?

Yes. Cameras with a stuck shutter, a broken light meter or fungus in the lens can often be repaired or used for parts, so they usually still have some value.

How do I get paid?

Once you accept the offer and the camera has arrived and matches the photos, urleica pays you by EFT directly into your South African bank account.

How do I send my camera?

urleica arranges collection or a tracked courier from anywhere in South Africa and explains how to pack the camera safely. You don’t need to take it to a post office.

Why do you need a copy of my ID?

South Africa’s Second-Hand Goods Act, 2009 requires buyers of second-hand goods to record the seller’s full name, address and ID number, and the item’s serial number, and to keep these records for at least five years. It helps keep stolen goods out of the trade.

I inherited a camera and don’t know what it is. Can you help?

Yes. Send photos and urleica will identify it, tell you roughly what it’s worth, and make an offer. There is no obligation to sell.
